NATO Saturday began with police clearing commuter trains on the South Side and protesters walking through Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s North Side neighborhood. By early afternoon, a judge had set bond at $1.5 million bond for three protesters charged with a terrorism-related bombing scheme.

The melee at a Tinley Park restaurant Saturday appears to have been the work of radical protesters who wanted to attack a gathering of alleged white supremacists, the mayor and a law enforcement source said.

Under a sweltering May sun that took a toll on protesters and police officers alike, demonstrators converged on Grant Park today for an anti-war rally intended to make the gathering NATO dignitaries take notice.
